Stirling Bagpipes, which recently celebrated their 5th year in business, are all set to welcome pipers from around the World taking part in Pipefest, 27th June 2014. Conveniently located on the parade route at Broad Street – this is a great place to pick-up new reeds or even a set of bagpipes!
‘Stirling Bagpipes’ is a traditional bagpipe making business based in Stirling’s old town. The shop combines a manufacturing workshop and a retail outlet. Situated only 2 minutes’ walk from the Stirling castle, the shop is brimming with a wide selection of antique and new bagpipes as well as anything else any bagpiper or drummer can think of.
Alan Waldron – the owner and master craftsman – specialises in making high quality Great Highland Bagpipes, Scottish Smallpipes and Border Pipes. His hands on method makes ‘Stirling Bagpipes’ a rarity, as most bagpipes are now mass produced. They are one of the last shops in town where things are actually made on the premises!
Over the years Alan has accumulated a wide range of antique bagpipes of classic makes, eg. Henderson, Glens, Lawrie, Robertson, Hardie, Starck . This collection proves to be very popular and sells well all over the world. One day in the nearest future Alan would love to set up a bagpipe museum in Stirling and be able to display all his historical pipes and piping memorabilia to be admired by bagpipe enthusiasts from all walks of life.
Alan’s speciality however is restoration of old bagpipes. He loves restoring antiques because everyone is different. They are sent from all over the world. It keeps up a bit of sparkle because you never know what’s coming through the door.
The shop stocks a wide range of piping (i.e. pipe & practice chanter kits, chanter reeds, bagpipe covers & cords, moisture control systems, valves & tuners) and drumming accessories as well as a large selection of piping and drumming books & CD’s. We also have a large selection of pipers’ headwear, capes, skin dubhs and sporrans.
They also replace broken parts, do refurbishments andgive valuations.
